so they said i'd broken it.

I fell over today in Didsbury my ankle went over a propos of nothing, and I fell down hard, and broke my left arm....
funnily enough, 40 years ago my mum broke her left arm in the same place I did today. she insisted we go to the hospital, and i now have a sling and a sick note, and no plaster, because at the point i broke it a sling is enough. i guess i'll need to get an extension on my dissertation - I could be out of action for 6-8 weeks its taking me ages to type with just my right hand; I can't dress myself or use a knife and fork or lots of other petty things, including write. I have ibruprofen to take but my arm still hurts, & i keep getting weepy over the slightest thing. But I'm glad i don't need a cast, and i think on balance that i'm pleased that its my arm not my leg - i could have dislocated my knee agin but haven't, so thats good...
so they said i'd broken it.

Oh, no! That's terrible, j'au-æmne. All they gave you was ibuprophen? Shame on them.
Here, have some , you'll feel better.

too right! happily i'd already decided not to go to andy's graduation this coming friday as i igured that what with the meetup and stuff i'd be neglecting my work... (...but it looks like i'm gonna need to applyt for an extension anyway...)
*munches *
although i only got ibruprofen, i'm actually very lucky with my treatment at the hands of the nhs - the hospital i went to has a special clinic for minor injuries run by senior nurses "nurse practicioners" so i was seen & x-rayed very quickly. & the staff were nice...
so they said i'd broken it.

On balance, arm is probably better than leg, but that's probably not much consolation. How badly broken is it? *offers *
so they said i'd broken it.
J'au-æmne Posted Jul 2, 2003
*politely declines as she is a freak & doesn't like it*
i think reasonably badly, although i don't know. i did overhear them finding the xray interesting, though... ...they showed it me, and explained what it should look like, but to be honest i didn't really understand...
so they said i'd broken it.
Dr E Vibenstein (You know it is, it really is.) Posted Jul 2, 2003
If I overheard doctors discussing my x-rays, I think "interesting" is the last word I'd want to hear.
*scoffs the * No sense in it going to waste.

don't suppose any of you know anything about voice recognition software?
so they said i'd broken it.
J'au-æmne Posted Jul 3, 2003
i'm not all that bothered really. its just that my tutor said to look into it.
i did see one piece i#of software that someone reccomended.. ...but it costs 200 dollars so i don't think i'll but it just yet...
...i'm beginning to appreciate the brunel smiley palette more and more...
so they said i'd broken it.
Dr E Vibenstein (You know it is, it really is.) Posted Jul 3, 2003
I only know one person who's used it, and apparently it's awkward and time consuming to set up, and unreliable once it's running. Then again, he had the use of both arms...

I have some voice recognition stuff in the cupboard from years ago, but couldnt understand how to use it in the end. I found it was easier to type. It may help with the dissertation, but it does take a long time to configure correctly. Somewhere like PC World should sell some for not too much of a price.

J'au-æmne Posted Jul 3, 2003
yeah. i was planning to go there on saturday anyway, so i'll have a look.

Witty Moniker Posted Jul 3, 2003
I would think that by the time you teach the software to recognize your particular speech pattern your arm will have healed.
so they said i'd broken it.
