As someone who studies in Manchester, I can confirm that it does not rain all the time; just most days when I've forgotten my umbrella, or I am carrying too much to carry an umbrella, or when I'm wearing trainers which let water in!
I personally feel that any northern city would appear to have the same amount of rain if you didn't have a car, and was too much a skinflint to travel on the bus a lot (like me)

Its so true, isn't it!
It was funny during the Uni's freshers week this year, before I'd gone up to Durham, the days started out nice & sunny so everyone set off in Tshirts, and then rained in the afternoon, so everyone was soaked
What do you study?

Maths and French (and yes it is a strange combination) at UMIST. At the moment I'm stressing about my year abroad starting in September.

I used to go out with a girl who did Physics and French at UMIST...because she wanted to do French but was good at physics. So its not as odd as you may think .
However, contrary to what you have said above, whenever I visited it _was_ raining...ditto when my brother went to work there.

*sympathy*
Although its unusual, I don't think its particularly a strange thing to do to study a science and a modern language...

When I tell people what I study, I usually get the response "they're my two worst subjects" or occasionally "are you going to be an accountant in France?". Which, by the way, I'm not going to be. I think that joint degrees are becoming more popular now. I just like having a bit of variety in my life.
With respect to rainy Mcr, it's not raining today.

Thats good to hear
When I tell people I study physics, I get the look... which says what are you, *mad*????
They then say something about how they could never understand physics.
I don't like it!
Doing a joint degree I imagine gives you a balance between arts and science, something that I could easily miss out on if it weren't for the fact that almost all the people I know are arts students.
