The link in your article is broken... just a typo, but as I was thinking of changing it I thought it might be good to re-structure your first paragraph. But, I thought I should check with you personally first.

I've done some juggling of clauses, and this is what I've come up with:

By 2015, the Millennium Development Goals ([Broken link removed by Moderator] had changed attitudes towards world development. Richer countries became more sensitive to poorer countries' needs. The next step in the crusade to eradicate poverty, was to build a water distribution net to share out the world's water fairly and to combat flooding and drought crises all in one.

Do you think this kind of editing is a good thing for us to do? Or do you think this is overstepping the mark? We would do this as a matter of course with commissioned articles from outside, but it seems different with site users.

Of course, we would always check before posting any changes (apart from spelling/punctuation). Thoughts?

I don't think you're overstepping the mark at all by editing and not telling me, though, to be honest had I been given that entry to subedit on h2g2 I prolly would have changed it without a word to the author.

IMO as long as people know who the editors on the site or at least know where to go if they have a problem with any editing that's been done, there's no need to get the author's agreement before editing something.

The only thing I think is that the restructured version could probably lose the comma after 'eradicate poverty'

I think book of the future is very exciting... I look forward to seeing how its overall style develops.

Fabulous! Perhaps I'm being a little oversensitive at the start of the project. But H2G2 users are very valuable to us-- we don't want to lose any!
