Well, I took delivery of my new computer about three weeks ago now and I have to say that the novelty is nowhere near wearing off yet. Good job really, considering how much it cost. Not surprising either. Video capability is just astounding. The clarity of the monitor, the styling of the boxes, the sheer brute processing power. Wa-hey.
Just for a laugh I thought I'd try and install Linux. Hmm. Red Hat, indeed Linux itself, make some assumptions about the design of computers that are not valid for Silicon Graphics machines. The bottom line is that it won't build the RPM database properly. Ho-hum. As a short-cut to getting Linux 2.10, I'll try Red Hat 6. At least then the stuff that the SGI guys have written will match what I see on screen. Until it crashes
