A Conversation for Root Cellars

Root cellar experiences

Nice article. We bought an 87-acre farm this past spring, and it came with a root cellar large enough to walk into (set into the side of a hill). It's got a cement floor, but the humidity still stays up, since cement does "breathe" a bit.

In addition to keeping things cool in summer, it helps keep them warm in winter. The temperature fluctuates a bit, but it's always above freezing and well below 55 F.

We use ours for the supply of tinned food set aside against the end of the world, as well as for storing veggies from our garden. The surge tank from our well is out there too.

I prefer Rootbeer cellars, except they do not plant well.
