I am trying to translate a phrase found on a family crest and online translators have not provided a translation that makes sense.

To me, it looks like 'not to oneself alone', but when it comes to translations I should never be trusted.

That seems right. I know that 'tibi' is 'to you'. So, in view of 'sui generis' ...

Yes, what you say is logical.
I'm fairly sure what I said above was right, however I'm just a student of Latin and so all my suggested translations carry a disclaimer, as I'm more often than not wrong.

I was thinking of 'quisque sibi proximus', everyone is closest to himself (if I correctly translated 'ieder is zichzelf het naast' into English)
to shed a little more light on the word 'sibi'.
