This was my school motto. For about 50 years I have thought thought it meant "Second to None"
What does it really mean?

A fairly literal translation would be 'with favourable omen' or 'the omen being good' or some such. It's difficult to tell the exact intention of two words lifted out of any context. It is probably lifted from somewhere in the classics.

Well I'm blowed. That's the same as I got from a Google search! Many thanks.
