vicinity may have meant conquered area in anglo-saxon, but not Latin. vicinity derives from the Latin noun vicinitas, from the Latin adj. vicinus, neighboring, from the Latin noun vicus, neighborhood. cultural linguists might connect the phoneme vici with the idea that neighbors were those whom Rome conquered, but for me, this would be a stretch-- a short one, but a stretch nonetheless.
balls in your court. oh, btw, STFU isnt conducive to the free flow of ideas. and if ya give the 'guides' here a hard time, they kick yer butt outta here altogether. i sense you enjoy a good fight-- just choose yer battles wisely, pallie. wouldnt wanna see them put a muzzle on ya...

Finally, some Discworld fans that like Latin (and similar, presumably) Good on you guys. I'm refering to two posts waaaaay up the page in case you get confused. How about veni vidi volumini? I'm pretty sure that's I came, I saw, I threw up, but I'm not sure. If I could remember a better one then I'd post it. This is a _brilliant_ thread and I salute you all. I only wish I could remember how to translate that into Latin.
