TOWEL DAY IDEA
§hadow Started conversation May 23, 2001
Got this from a friend of mine and thought it was worth passing on.

This is from D. Clyde Williamson:
Douglas Adams will be missed by his fans worldwide. So that all his fans everywhere can pay tribute to this genius, I propose that two weeks after his passing (May 25, 2001) be marked as "Towel Day".
All Douglas Adams fans are encouraged to carry a towel with them for the day. Make sure that the towel is conspicous- use it as a talking point to encourage those who have never read the Hitchhiker's Guide to go pick up a copy.
Wrap it around your head, use it as a weapon, soak it in nutrients-
whatever you want!
Most minds in the universe are constrained to the laws of Physics, let us remember those that broke the laws, and got away with it.
So long Douglas, and thanks for all the fish!

I'll be bringing my towel into work to use shading my monitor from the glare of the sunshine, to mop up spilt coffee when I get an interesting email and hiding under when my boss wants to hand me more work.

What a great idea! I can hide my head so I can't see my co-workers, and, since I can't see them, they won't be able to see me and ask me why they can't print from their e-mail!

I think the day would be better on DNA's birthday, March 11th.
Or the anniversary of his passing, May 11th.

There will be a memorial day after this year on the 11th of February (the 42nd day of the year). I don't know what this will involve but I'm sure towels will be there somewhere.

We also need a similar holiday on February 11th. It's the 42nd day of the year, so I propose that it be known as Life, the Universe, and Everything day. You would have to carry around your towel and engage in deep thoughts.

The towel is so people who aren't familiar with the guide notice, and then you can tell them what a cool holiday they're missing out on.
Besides, why wouldn't you be carrying around your towel?
