I have made a start on the magnum opus

I have found a nice thick, lined notebook lurking on one of my bookshelves and started jotting notes on an alphabetical basis.
It goes from Addis Ababa, Aston, Aidan (the oldest grandson) to Zeitlyn, Cameroon and Zomba Malawi, taking in 72 years en route.
There will be several pages of family tree and a CV, also my Desert Island Discs.
Alphabetical rather than date bound will make it easier to complete.(DV and WP)
At present I have nothing listed under Q or X and only Korup (the rainforest in Cameroon) under K which is a cheat as I never managed to get there, so suggestions welcome.
I shall be including as many photos as possible.
"I may", as Oates said, "be some time". Especially as I also have large knitting and crochet projects to finish. smiley - starsmiley - star

Judging by the fact that it's taken me half an hour to remember the name of the falls on the Zambezi river(Victoria), you're in for a long wait ladies.
Other names are clogging the synapses a bit. What was the name of the place in Mozambique for example? I'll start googling on Sunday, as I think the unprompted memories are probably the most important.

Maybe I'm going to need a flagged map of Africa, like the one I once embroidered.

Write it all down - if you forget names or think that stopping to look stuff up will disturb the flow, just write a placeholder [like this] in red, and do it all later when you're not in the writing Zone. (that's how I do my references in Essays when I actually have something to write instead of footling around working out the exact way to reference something)

your subs can do all the donkey work later smiley - smiley

I spent part of my volunteer time in the library this afternoon looking up highways and rather more byways in Zambia and Rhodesia (well I was there pre-independence)
I have so far had 30 different postal addresses in my life. My younger son and his wife are pressing me to get out of this one and find somewhere more convenient in Lincoln, but that would probably be a bridge too far.
Presently trying to decide on my favourite river: Thames in the 1950s? Danube in the 1960s? Blue Nile, Zambezi, Yangtze? smiley - starsmiley - star
who thanks you all for the encouragement

It WOULD have been handy when I went to Lesotho in the mid 70s and Thos Cooks, who were booking our passage, couldn't find Marseilles on their map! smiley - smileysmiley - starsmiley - star

I'm surprised Suzhou Creek doesn't get a mention in the best rivers category.

Is this an abridged history (pun intended) or does the story of us leaving Gordon asleep in the mini bus when it was stopped by the army on a bridge in Cameroon and him waking up alone with the driver who had been sent back to the previous road block to get his papers get a mention?

It certainly does. Couldn't remember name of that river though.
Also I shall need someone to take a picture of me with a bit of Cameroonian cloth (purchased for that trip) wrapped round my head
I'm enjoying this.smiley - starsmiley - star

Sanaa river seems most likely - possibly Mbam though I don't remember us going that far north.
