Met friend from Hong Kong at hotel (Albany House)and wandered via Bewleys for second breakfast to Messrs (Maguire) for a non Guinness stout (they brew their own).
Met up with the following week's bridegroom (the wedding in Kilkenny was the reason for my friend's visit to Ireland) and he took us on the Dublin bus tour which we hopped off from for a Guinness at the brewery.
In the evening we met the Spearcarrier and his lady for "A woman of no importance" at the gate theatre. (First met friend when he directed the Hong Kong Players "Earnest" and I played Lady Bracknell)
After that we had a good supper at a late opening Italian restaurant.
Next morning the 4 of us joined a brilliant walking tour of the Easter Uprising. Over two and a half hours of a fantastic (and fast-speaking)Dub historian. Latish lunch at a Dutch cafe.
Then a marvellous piece of serendipity. Spearcarrier, wife and I went to St Anne's garden fete. Dublin city coun cil organises these free happenings in parks all over the city during the summer. I'd previously been to a Mad Hatter's Tea Party and a Teddy bears' Picnic in other places.
This one includeed a Viking village complete with battle. We parked in the rose gardem and bought lots of flowers to replenish window boxes.
Sunday, we met up again for a walking tour of Kilmainham jail and tracked down an ancestor for the friend in irishtown. In the evening we went on a literary pub crawl: a couple of good actors did little scenes of irish plays in various pubs and on steps of public buildings and asked intriguing pub quiz type questions.
All of these things(except St Anne's) cost money, but not much if you get a senior's discount like me.Enjoyed it thoroughly. It's great to be a real tourist sometimes.

That sounds like a very busy weekend! You certainly entertain your your guests well - but they have to work hard! Sorry I didn't see you when we were there.
