Thanks. It sounds like he did what Terry Brooks did with the Shannara series. Same story just insert different character names, and same quest, just insert different treasure.
I agree that there are way too many books. I used to think I had a handle on things until I started reading the BooK NooK discussions.

Can't disagree on that point. I started to get interrested in the old latin writers (Translated to english...my latin is so poor as to be non existent) a year ago, 25 books later every footnote still gives references to others I just have to read to get the bigger picture. And that's just one part of history and a small part of litterature. I love both fiction and Sci-Fi AND like politics and history. My backlog could be used to build a wall around the equator......
(If all the cars in the world were massed in a row around the equator....the sale of air-conditioners would rise dramatically and heater factories would face bankruptcy...) Maybe getting old isn't such a bad idea after all, I can retire in about 37 years and if I can then survive a meagre 40 years of not working I might get a percent or two into the mass of books that I by now know I want to read. (Hope no more interresting books will be written in the meantime...)

have you gotten into any of the aforementioned books yet? I understand you read at a fast pace.....I'm still at the "getting to" stage what concerns David Eddings but I'm getting there soon.

Actually I'm just a persistant reader My pace is slow but like the tortoise, I make up for it in shear dogged determination
Covenant will be the next series I read. I am currently reading the Illuminatus Trilogy, very interesting

You really should try Eddings
I know it took me a long time to start The Belgariad...I had never read fantasy before, but the books just took me with them...amazing. But I should warn you, Eddings has this very iritating habit on hinting and hinting...it is really annoying, but also fun.

Oh yes, I have read all of Eddings I truly enjoy his work. He was the first author that worked his characterization spell so well that I actually laughed when characters, especially Silk, would do something
I have finished the Illuminatus Trilogy, I have finished a book called Far Horizons (look for the review in the Post soon), and I just finished the latest in the Robert Aspirin Phule universe. I am now reading Larry Niven's Flatlander (the combined stories of Gil the ARM.)
What other books have your read?

Well, if you´re asking me, I haven´t actually read so much fantasy after Eddings...School gives me enough reading
However, I´ve read Robert Jordan, though I have to say I think they´re not so good...opinions? And I started some series about Three swords...there is this boy with red hair etc.
Also, I thought The Hitch Hiker´s guide to the Galaxy was great, but I haven´t found any other good Scifi books(if I don´t count the Star Wars ) ...I have to keep looking.
Lord of The Ring wasn´t for me...I don´t know why I didn´t get to the end, maybe I´ll try again...every one seems to think it´s great, I would like to know why?
Got to go...

I have to admit that there is a lot of Fantasy out there that is just formula. I've really turned away from it and now read mostly Science Fiction.
If you are interested in some Science Fiction, I would definitely recommend Ender's Games by Orson Scott Card as a great introduction. I have many favorites but this is one of my all time favorites. Also, you might want to try Dune, however, this is not a run around shot em up book.

You are more than welcome. Any bookstore with a Science Fiction section should have these. Also, if you have never bought through Amazon.com I have had nothing but good experiences and the prices are always great.

I was in Helsinki on Saturday, actually looking for a school book, but I also had time to look for some other books...I couldn´t find Dune, or I did, but there wasn´t the first part, irritating. Instead I find a fantasy book called Diplomacy of Wolves by Holly Lissle, It seems interesting
Have a nice week!
