A Conversation for Stargate SG-1
A Great Show
The Bad Kind of Puppy Started conversation Feb 8, 2000
I'd just like to say that I really enjoy Stargate SG-1. I saw the film when I was about nine, when it immediately became my favourite movie; a position no other film has managed to take from it since. When I discovered they had made a T.V. series of it I was thrilled! The series is, in fact, better than I had hoped for. So far, in Britain on terrestrial T.V., we have only seen the first series up to "There But for the Grace of God". There are a few things that concern me, though: for one, why do all the people the team meet on other planets seem to be able to speak fluent English? Second, if the Goa'uld are worm-like parasites why did Ra look more like a grey alien in the film? And lastly, when did Shau're become Sha're?
Anyway, glad there are other people out there who like it,
Yours faithfully,
R25968.
A Great Show? that is an understatement...

3rd series? You must have Sky or something, because so far I've only seen the first series on Channel 4. I have to say though that "Politics" was a bit disappointing: a clip show so early in the series' run? Not a good idea!

What I love about SG-1 is the fact that they are dealing with unknown technology (mainly the gate) means that when something goes wrong, and General Hammond asks what's going on, they have to turn round and say 'I don't know'
And when the gate starts shaking about and making 'wurrrp' noises, and they don't know why, it generates great tension...
As opposed to what's happened to Star Trek... They've relied to much on the 'tech' talk... I remember an episode where Harry Kim and Torres were doing something to the warp core to do something or the other and when the core starts going critical, the lines were something as follows:
Torres: Core destabilising, dylithium wafflebangers over 300% tolerance
Kim: Attempting to compensate
*Few beeps*
Torres: Core stable
That was it. How can that make for good television?
Key: Complain about this post
