regarding the TB comment, I suspect some people may have a genetic flaw in themselves which may protect them from TB- eg.like having Sickle Cell anaemia, gives you some protection againt malaria.
TB has killed more people than anything else I think- and TB medicine is a massive specialty in its own right- I suspect it's not just one simple disease, but multifactorial. Hence the cure will have to be also multifactorial

This thread is about Nobel Prizes, and it would be nice to keep to the point.

"We finish tomorrow at 16.00, then back for Monday!!
where did the time go!
Apparently this is a very inspirational time!!" [All from your post 132]
1.What has this got to do with the Nobel Prize?
2. You seem to have ignored my questions about logic. Are you saying that logic doesn't matter? That "Nobel Prizes are never announced whenever a Nobel Prize is announced" is as much to the point as "Herta Muller won the Nobel Prize for Literature this year"?
3. Are you of the opinion that brief and well-meant compliments should be ignored to the point of rudeness?
4. Are you of the opinion that only potential candidates for one of the Nobel Prizes (there are more than one you know), should be allowed to contribute to this thread?
5. Also, are you of the opinion that questions asked on this thread should be ignored? h2g2 itself wouldn't last long under your stipulations.

I'm of none of the opinions that you've stated above. I do think however that as the thread is labelled' Nobel Prize', people who contribute to this thread should keep to the point. Like the person before you mentioned could we keep to the point. I do like compliments, like eveyone I suspect, so thanks for that.
I'm all for logic, in medicine we use it all the time to get to a diagnosis, and decide what treatment to provide, or what investigations to perform.
Back to Nobel Prizes, I believe St. Andrews University, Scotland, produced 2 Nobel prize winners for medicine!!! I studied there, but sadly they had long gone

An effective solution for all the chaos the snow has caused in the UK is surely worthy of a Nobel Prize

Heard the Nobel Prize winner who discovered beta blockers and Cimetidine (a H2 receptor blocker)- died recently aged 85- he discovered 2 of the major classes of drugs we use today (and must have made the Pharmaceutical Companies big bucks!!!)
