Who do I teach?

In answer to your query on the spoonerism thread:
I only teach 1-to-1Õs privately and almost everyone I teach is senior level management Ð mostly between late twenties and early 40s. For instance - I teach the top seven people in one of the 3 telecom companies here and act as a management advisor as much as a teacher. I donÕt use textbooks at all but write things as and when necessary. What I write is relevant and in context. I pretty well teach who I want when I want, which is nice and most of the people I teach are friends first and students second Ð also nice.
I do not teach in a school Ð I did to start with (to learn) but I fundamentally disagree with the way schools teach Ð their interests are to teach as slowly as they can get away with so as to keep the students for as long as possible. My way is to teach them what they want as quickly as possible. My background doesnÕt help as I have spent 36 years working in nine different countries with over 60 different nationalities. Communication was NEVER a problem.
I do help teenage kids with their baccalaureate English (for nothing) but I am not good at teaching young people Ð perhaps I am too old but (other than university teaching) I didnÕt even begin this game until I was 52 Ð until then I lived happily under the impression that I was an architect.
Why do you ask?

Oh that's very interesting since i've never heard of teachers like you. I don't fully understand the ways of schools and teaching, but I think I also disagree since my dad has always complained about the schools since I was in primary school.
To answer your question, I was working on my research essay for my english class (community college), and i'm not very good at writing my thesis and supporting topics and being comfortable enough with it before turning it in. I often turn in work late, I work too slow on essays. I was thinking maybe you could help me organize a practical thesis statement.
But actually, I don't think I should be talking about it...sorry if it seems too unusual by even mentioning such a thing...i'm one of those people who sometimes say things to people on the internet spontaneously and end up looking a little crazy

No there are not many teachers quite like me. Other teachers are very wary but I have fantastically loyal students and as they ALL pay me six months in advance Ð I canÕt be doing it all wrong!!!! DonÕt worry. Actually I have helped a number of my former students who left Morocco to study in the States. They send me their essays etc and I make my comments as to the English, the arrangement, layout, argument etc. I now do virtually all of my ÔwritingÕ teaching over the Internet, as it is not really necessary to see the people at all. Teaching ÔlisteningÕ and ÔspeakingÕ is still better done face to face.
Anyway, if you want any help feel free to contact me by e-mail Ð [email protected]
