A Conversation for Games Workshop

The prices the GW charge are massivly over what they should be, they've even brought in a price code system so they just have to change 1 sheet of paper rather than have a sale before every price increase (heaven forbid they change a price tag!).
The only reason why people put up with it is cos there isn't any where eles to go! Oh, yeah, and the small matter of their games actualy being good.
Citadel journal is prehaps one of the biggest ripoffs- printed on low quality paper, in black and white, paying the contabuters with 20 vouchers, and they charge £3+ (not checked price recently)
Another scam of theirs...making a white dwarf subsription £15 more expensive, but giving you an extra £15 voucher, so you end up paying the same amount...but puly on them!
Too right!
Mike A (snowblind) Posted Jun 18, 2000
Citadel Journal is £4. I have only two copies. Luckily, the amount of content has gone up, which shows they've got -some- sense.
For cheap alternatives you could try other wargaming companies, but seeing as they've been ground to dust by GW this'll only be happening by mail ordrer, so you may as well buy from GW.
This is a sad state of affairs. What can we do?

...'nothing' is the word that springs to mind...
a boycott would only scuceed in in depriving us of our hobby, a long term campaign might do it, but i find it impossible to belive that there arn't hundreds set up already!
Too right!
Mike A (snowblind) Posted Jun 20, 2000
The strange thing is I've seen none of these campaigns. Maybe we should start one? An email thing? On h2g2? On the Warhammer message boards? Gotta make it BIG!!!
Too right!
Avatar Posted Jun 21, 2000
Well it could be worth a try, but where to start? We would need a center of opperations...either h2g2, or if you really want to make this serious, lets set up our own web site, i know html and i've already got 1 so it wouldn't even be that hard.
Too right!
Mike A (snowblind) Posted Jun 21, 2000
Well, I figure if we want something to happen, we gotta make it serious. If we go the right way about it, we can have a large army of supporters
Too right!

True, so you wanna set the site up? Well then we'll need a catchy, short name, like GWpricewars or somthing, see if you can come up with somthing more catchy, once i've got a name i'll get right to it, in between my own site, revision, and that little thing known as a social life, still it'll get done.
Do you know HTML? If you did it would speed the thing up alot, there might be other gw fans on this site who do know html, if we could pursade them it would help us alot
Too right!
Mike A (snowblind) Posted Jun 22, 2000
I don't know HTML, but I know somebody who does, very well. And as luck would have it, he owes me a website!
So, we'll start passing ideas, and get mate to put the whole thing up, ja?
Too right!

I don't mind doing most of it, i hate not having control of things but calling in the favour could be very handy.
Idears...i've already e-mailed the games workshop for a complete price list of all thier products, we should post that up on the site to show how outragous the pricing is. I also have a copy of their old price list from a few years ago so we can see how much the prices have gone up.
Most of the site should be a massive notice board where people leave thier comments and support, and a voting pole (my mate knows how to do them, and i'm sure he wouldn't mind telling me). We need to publisise it, the best way is by giong to all the games workshop home pages and and posting links and asking them to join in. Also we can try some cheap tactics, like puting links to peoples sites if they'll take ours.
Then we need to start hitting the games workshop it's self, and mail them about the site and get as many other people as we can to mail them as well.
But first things first...we need a name
Too right!
Mike A (snowblind) Posted Jun 23, 2000
Oh jesus, I got no clue!
1. I still have the 1997 price list
2. A notice board, and perhaps email list too. I wanna do this big, proper and professional. No skimping. If we can put three minds into this, then cool.
3. So, who'll you have to all the uploading stuff for the website? You or him?
Too right!
Avatar Posted Jun 24, 2000
Me, i'll start setting it up tomorrow, or monday, sha;ll we go with the name GWpricewars?
Too right!
Mike A (snowblind) Posted Jun 24, 2000
Ok, that's cool. The name will do for now, if anyone can think of anything better we'll see about it...
Give us a bell once you're started, and I'll toss ideas in
btw your 40K campaign is progressing nicely
Too right!

Oops, got carried away...most of the sites done now. I've uploaded 3 of the 6 pages, the rest i'm doing on line. Go to http://www.geocities.com/gwpricewars to see what i've done so far. Its not brilliant and its sure as hell not finished, if u want nething changing or adding just let me know.
Next up i'm adding a hit counter, a date conter, and the other pages. (the ones that are done are home, facts and 'mail them')
If you want to change anything yourself i'll need your e-mail adress so i can mail u the password.
Too right!
Mike A (snowblind) Posted Jul 1, 2000
That's ok so far. Once we get these lil' bits up, it'll be rockin'. I checked it out last night, but I think I was rather tired. If I get a flash of inspiration, I'll tell you about it, ok? Now, I'll go off and do the advertising...
Too right!
Avatar Posted Jul 2, 2000
I've all but finished the site now, only got the contact pages left to do. I've decided not to put a visable counter in so it seems less comercailised.
I think i figured out one of the best ways to advertise, join aload of web rings and ask the ring masters to mail all the other members about the site. Thats somtimes 40+ people in a few clicks. Still we need to tell every 1 about the site still.
Do you want to be included on the conctact page? and if so what address do u want putting in.
might actualy get this thing going...
Too right!
Mike A (snowblind) Posted Jul 2, 2000
If the counter is hidden, how does one get to see it? Good idea though.
I've been going around the message boards on Warhammer sites, and as I post I slip in a link. Sometimes I make a really obvious ploy for advertising...the people gotta know, man!
Hey, yesterday I made my own website. When I get round to the Warhammer section, I'll see what I can do myself.
Put me in as [email protected] in contacts please . Oh yeah, my website is http://quorthon_666.homestead.com/quorthon.html (for future reference)
