Dragonfly. "A poet can survive everything but a misprint"-- Oscar Wilde Started conversation Dec 4, 2004
I moved a box against a wall outside the store yesterday and a pretty cat went running towards some pallets, where she hid.
Naturally, I was most interested in the cat. "YAY!!! We have a kitty!!!" I cried, jumping up and down, then seeing if I could find out where she'd gone.
I think I may have heard something then...
I know I kept on with the box. I had to have picked it up again, as it was a good four feet tall (I'm talented, but haven't tried jumping up and down over kitties while holding a 4X2 foot box), and I marched it to its destination.
Then I was going to see who was around, so I could tell them, "YAY!!! We have a cat!!!"
No one, I think, was around.
I think it was about that time that I paused. And heard something.
Mewing.
But it seemed almost like a bird... or squeaky cart wheels. It didn't seem too out of place.
I remember I momentarily disregarded it.
And then something made me stop and go back to where I'd been. I would've been there only minutes later, to transfer another box... but I went to investigate the noise.
A kitten.
I was afraid to do anything but look in wonder and in love. Cats are to me the most beautiful of God's creatures next to humans. Some of my dearest friends have been cats.
I was afraid to intrude.
The kitten was so small, so shaky on her paws, pink under weak tufts of fur. She was ratlike, smaller than most of the mice and rats I've seen; her ears still rounded, still close to her sweet little head.
I was very afraid I had hurt her-- perhaps crippled her-- when I had moved the box. But no. She shook because she was so young, perhaps so very cold. And without mama.
I went inside, called for one of my managers. Then I showed them what I found.
The kitten ended up in my palm for... I dunno... as much as half an hour, while I talked to the mama, trying to coax her out from under a trailer (where we store all of our inventory for the holidays). Management decided on using milk and food to help get her out.
If things had remained quiet outside, I believe I would've been able to catch Mama without any bribes. But we weren't in the wild (so to speak, heh heh), so shouts from managers scared her back under the trailer.
Three managers decided they needed to be around to catch Mama... then I mentioned the progress I had been making solo. "We better leave you alone, then."
It was... well. I think it's hitting me now more than it did at the time. It was wonderful to help. She was soooo scared. With the most beautiful green cat eyes I may ever know.
Mama and baby are together and safe. We were afraid Mama wouldn't accept her baby, because I had handled her, and one of my managers had, too.... so she'd smell like us. But Mama didn't reject the little love!!!
The other five members of the family are chasing mice and drinking from gilded saucers of milk in heaven when not enjoying divine cat naps, to be sure.

::schniffles:: I had to do it. Anyone would have. I'm just so happy the kitten wasn't hurt.
The experience refreshed my sense of... well, existence.
Thanks for reading, pheloxi!!! Always wonderful to see you!!!

being anoyed, because neighbours complained about my compliants about their excessive noise. in one weekend 19 hrs steps and other noises on a wooden floor and I complained about after 15 hrs and send letter "the owners of the building" and they come to talk on monday.
they are student and they are allowed to make noise, their words.
he even had nerve to give earplugs. I hate being visual impired amd want take make hearing too!
this second time in less 15 yrs I have troubles with neighbours, both time the "the owners of the building" do nothing. the first time is provably one of reason I got diabetes. extreme stress and nerves.

Er... well, now that I've officially introduced myself I figured it's alright if I wander in here. That's a lovely story - I love cats too. Used to have one myself for many years, but she died some time ago and my parents don't want a new one. Street cats can be so frustratingly (is that a real word?) intimidated by humans... it's great to hear you managed to help.
Oh, and Pheloxi - ! (as well as a virtual kick in the general direction of the Neighbours from Hell...)

, pheloxi!!! I hate that people can be so inconsiderate, especially of their fellow man!!!
I have a differently-abled friend from college (he's legally blind) who has done SO MUCH to educate youth about differently-abled people. He was interested in politics, but now I believe he's settled on education.... anyrot!!!
The dearlove nearly lost his job because someone told someone that he could not do his job-- monitoring kids. Big lie. He could sense if there was any upset in the group... and he'd be right on top of it.
I got to watch him teach two different groups of kids at two different schools, and I can tell you... he handled the job beautifully.
Those students are cruel. Allowed to make noise!??.... what right does anyone have to upset anyone else!?? There is no right for that. It's part of living, and we all learn from it... but let's get over ourselves all ready!!!
Dearheart, I think you might know that my mother is diabetic. I still live with her, so I see it almost daily. Bless your hearts!!! So much!!!
It's not enough to have to battle your own body.... you have to battle your neighbors, too!?? I wish I could do something to help. Kick their a**es!!!
.... There's a reason why certain people become friends. I don't mind you "using" my journal to vent your feelings about those rude neighbors. My heart goes out to you. I'm also not the best at checking on other people's userpages, so I am glad you brought it up here!!!
Lady Whistlestop--- I mean.... Lady Pennypincher--- I mean--- YOU!!! Sorry about not having a cat, but wot can you do!?? Frustratingly is a word. Anything, in my opinion, is a word, if you can make some sense of it.
One day in my poetry class a student commented, "That's a made up word!!"
And another classmate replied, "Every word is made up."
It really is.
Take care, loves... I may not be back til tomorrow cause of w*rk and other commitments (oooo.... ).

Most people around here seem to use 'Lady P'... I don't really mind what I'm called as long as I know it's me.
'Every word is made up' - that's De Saussure! We studied a bit of him last year, signifiers and signifieds and all that. But things are different when you're writing in a language that isn't your own.

anoyingly neighbours have more rights than I...
a while back it was not allowed to "a wooden floor up stairs", beccause of the noise, but the rule was hard enforce, because it was expensive to remove it again.
I could not cope moviing again. I moved house 4 times in 14 yrs.

only one time I had move of noise. the police was no use, because they came in such way that the noise maker saw them and that happened about 10 times. even asking them to take another way was not done. I moved to house the downstair neighbour was one ear deaf, but nice man who helped to cope.
next move was because my house demolished for a better neighbourhood. I moved the house curently live now. absolute the best location to live, because 5 min walk to towncentre.

Dragonfly: I study Arabic and General Literature; I guess you'd say the first is my major and the other my minor, though it doesn't exactly work like that over here.
