Recurring Dreams
Apollyon - Grammar Fascist Started conversation May 5, 2005
A guy I know once had a recurring dream where an evil man clad all in black kept coming up the stairs and killing him. Eventually, he killed it, and the nightmare stopped. He has no idea what it was about.

I had a recurring dream 1 1/2 times , was back when I was very small, as part way through having the dream for the second time there was a news flash saying "Erm, Laura's already had this dream" so I had a different one instead

i have had a recurring theme in dreams since I was about 15 - whenever I am in the slightest bit of trouble (something i could get myself out of easily, or even I want to stay and see what develops) Sir Lancelot of the Round Table will come riding up on a polar bear and save me whether I want him to or not! Can't seem to get rid of the guy, and I have no idea what he even looks like, he's always behelmed. Sometimesd, in nightmares, when i could really use help, though, he doesn't show and I have to save myself

I'm the author of this entry. Great to read through all your comments. Dreams are a very interesting subject.

Thanks. I'd like to do another entry on this subject if I have the time - and can tear myself away from writing short stories. This was more of an introduction to the subject - so much more that could be written.

Tavaron's writing an entry on the mythology of nightmares - what's historically said to cause them.

It will be a great entry when it's finished. I'll look forward to reading it again.
Your own personal space is really interesting. You sound like a very creative person.

i've had this one very specific dream 4 times now, once when i was about 6, once when i was about 11, and twice when i was thirteen. It is very vivid while I'm dreaming, and not 1 second after i wake up, the memories mostly gone. The gist of it is that im standing on a cliff like block, with many other blocks in front of me, that all come crashing down towards me, and it is very dark. This repeats over and over again, almost like dominos. Sometimes I know that i'm having the dream again. I wake up terrified, but the full memory seems always suppressed. Could this be my sub conscious protecting me from a memory too terrifying for me to deal with? and thoughts on what it could mean?

Hello Ford,
About your dream....It's very natural to move around when we wake up, but unfortunately that's when we can lose the clear memory of our dreams. It's surprising how quickly they can fade.
Dreams are very personal and usually symbolic. But from what you have mentioned it sounds like some sort of fear you have. The block could represent you and the smaller blocks are the things in front of you that you are afraid of.
Ever thought of keeping a dream diary?

Just one small thing. I researched and wrote this entry - not Atlantic Cable. He was the editor.
Thanks.
