Hi Ændr!
I have been meaning to mention this to you, but kept forgetting. I see that you have been explaining how to write Æ on a windoze computer, so I thought you would like to be able to tell thoes with a Mac, too.
Hold down the 'shift' and the 'option' key, and hit the , [apostrophe/quotation mark] key. and you will get the Æ symbol on a Macintosh. if you just hold down the 'option' WITHOUT the shift, you will get lowercase: æ

ps. if they know how to use the 'key caps' utility, they can find it that way too.

Someone mention my name?
The problem with Linux/Unix how to do it is that it will depend very much on which brand/version/options etc are installed.
As Æ is an ISO character it should display correctly in any ISO compatible browser using the &198; or Æ ISO codes.
These can be entered from any browser as shown (with the semi colons -

I know that if the system you're running uses XFree86 (ie if it's running on intel like hardware, pc compatible and all that and has windows and things) then you can use AltGR-A - that's the other alt key on the RHS of the space bar. I found you can do all sorts of tricks like Æ Ø ¶ þ ß ð « ¢ µ ¹²³¼½¾±°¿ Neat.
I don't know about other systems, but for sun hardware it has the compose key which if pressed then the right combination of numbers/letters whatever, you'll get all the funny symbols.

Drat. I guess it must be that you've a different setup
Can you get the Æ from any other key combinations?
I must say I only found this by accident, but it does work on both my home machine (Linux) and my work machine (FreeBSD). Does your keyboard have a UK key layout and keymap setup?

I beleive so.
No, I tend to only get Æ by alt+0198
I haven't really experimented that much with keycombos though
but then again, I am cursed with Win 98 OS at home
I use dec alpha at work and will test that there, but at work it is a unix keyboard so...
