How old are your kids? Old enough to have out of them the shit confused? SImply buy one of the HHGTTG videos, play them
all the bits where a Guide entry is being recited and watch them lapse into confused silence forever. It worked for me when I was small.
ALternatively. some children thrive on being given a wooden spoon, a bowl, three potatoes and an infinite amount of time. Christ knows what
they think they're achieving but they seem happy enough doing it.

My kids would probably comment that the computer graphics on "the guide" look like hand-drawn animation and then throw the potatos at me.
Then again, I'll try anything once.
I have a boy and a girl, almost 1 and almost 3 respectively.

If they mock late 1970s computer graphics simulations, explain to them that in the same way it would be impossible for them to run before
they can walk (and, indeed move in a controlled way before they can blunder meaninglessly across the carpet) they cannot use something
like a Playstation until they have mastered the ZX-80, C64 and PC with 286 CPU running at 25MHz. They must therefore respect the fact that
even ten years ago computers were massively crapper than they now are. Let them watch some OU study programs where wire-frame
graphics are treated as a new form of higher being by the tutors. When they're old enough to understand, point out that four years ago
someone with a 130Mb hard drive was at the forefront of technology and the envy of their peers. Modern graphics may look almost real
but take up an amount of space that wasn't there until recently. Style over content is a very useful phrase sometimes.
