A fun night last night watching the Glyndebourne touring company doing 'The Bartered Bride' at Milton Keynes new theatre/opera house. I'm told by some real opera buffs that the hall 'lacks resonance', but I enjoyed it. The main problem with the place is the lousy access.
Finding the place wasn't too bad, but then came the car park. Luckily we were in a small car, because the ramps in the car park demand a ridiculously small turning circle. There were visible marks on the walls where larger cars had failed to pass unscathed.
Then came the hall itself. Narrow corridors leading to the auditorium, mde worse by the fact that they wouldn't open the doors until five minutes before the performance. The result was that many people, who'd been queueing for 10 minutes, still weren't inside when the announcement came that 'the performance is about to start.' Luckily they had the sense to delay things until everyone was seated, so the dark mutterings of an impending riot which I heard coming from behind me were unfulfilled.
