And if you REALLY want to confuse those non-Americans, you can also say that there's also Jell-O pudding. I don't mean the British form of pudding which (I think) is steamed and made from lovely ingredients like cow's blood. I mean soft, creamy, sweet pudding..chocolate, vanilla..the possibilities are endless! Oh, and Bill Cosby. You have to mention Bill Cosby! He's the spokesman for jello pudding.

Cow's blood?! I don't think that any pudding I've eaten has had that ingredient in, unless there's some kind of macabre cover-up going on! Forget the X-Files and UFOs, what's the (British) government's connection with puddings?

There are several things that qualify as "puddings". Jell-O Pudding is what used to be commonly called cornstarch pudding, or 'blancmange'. Sugar, cornstarch, milk and flavorings; cooked until thick. The same process as making gravy, actually. A liquid, a thickener, and a flavor. Just sugar and milk instead of meat drippings and water.

Some steamed puddings, such as plum pudding, are made with suet [animal fat].

There are a variety of things besides cornstarch that can be used as thickeners: flour, arrowroot, tapioca, potato starch, egg yolks, blood.

Ah, I see someone has finally gotten around to mentioning what's in the stuff. Yum. In fact, the bones/hooves are the ingredients of "gelatin", so anything having that ingredient has ground animal bone in it. How pleasant. Have a nice day. smiley - winkeye

And imagine the horror on a vegetarian's face when you eat a mound of the colored wiggly stuff, using your lips as a vacuum to slurp up the gelatin, chanting, "Hooves, hides, and bones" with a sadistic grin on your face.

A steak is even more effective. Steaks bleed.

So which would bother you most? Someone eating a rare steak with blood dribbling down their chin or the former Jello-slurper?

I think the pudding you were referring to with blood in is actually Balck Pudding, more of a sort of sausage really - see the article about the great british breakfast - http://www.h2g2.com/A103177

Us Brits use the term pudding for many things, and is quite often used to refer to any dessert served after a main meal.

Hence jelly is pudding too !?

Actually at this point I've been trying not to eat meat, but I'd be much more likely to eat meat than jello. It's really just the idea that it's made of ground up bone. Just sounds repulsive, whether or not I'm out to save animals.
