TjabaTjenaHallo

You forgot the "Linux Zealot" who believes, contrary to all available evidence, that there is only one way to do it.

Dave the Elbow

Is that the Slackare Linux Zealot, the RedHat Linux Zealot or another of their pale skinned cousins?

Interesting Fact:
Macintosh is based off of Unix (they purchased rights or somethin, not sure)
Windows is actually (this is quite true) a cheap rip off of Unix, they stole code (and were sued succesfully for hundreds of milloins) from Unix which makes the basis of NT 3.X and no Xp, Unix never crashes, Windows does constantly because of its shoddy make
Unix will run on Mac or Pc Comps.

I tried linux. It was like breathing water. 3 weeks and I was back in windows. it's like windows flashes subliminal messages at you or something.

Three weeks is a long time to manage to breath underwater. I suspect the analogy may be poor.

Unix (& linux) is great is you know *how* to do what you want to do, and do it quickly.
Windows is great if you are happy to do nearly what you want to do and do it slower, but looking a lot better.

I had to learn UNIX for my new(ish) job. You can do stuff in a matter of seconds in UNIX which would take hours in windows. Very very powerful stuff. If you know how to use it smiley - smiley

Unix is the basis of much of the world's computing infrastructure. Efficient web services run on Unix. OpenBSD is the most secure Unix and the most secure operating system generally available. FreeBSD is an extremely efficient, flexible and widely supported Unix. Linux is a poor relation, yet far better known. Linux is basically a huge collection of hacks and bodges pieced together.

For security, code correctness and overall integrity, OpenBSD is THE ONE. It is free, as in beer and freedom and will always remain so. However, ethical users in both a private and corporate sense, will contribute to the finances of the OpenBSD project.

If it weren't for OpenBSD, there would be a lot less firewalls around, as many use OpenBSD packet filtering technology. Few realise the unsung hero value of Unix in general and OpenBSD specifically.
