I'm sorry to see you leave the salon, but I expect you have reasons.

For one, I can see for myself, you are very active all over h2g2, and it must be time consuming.

I spend a couple of hours almost every day at h2g2 and I only read a tenth of what I would like to and contribute even less.

You've correctly identified the main reason why I departed from the Atelier. I think that some of the regulars there have decided that they're more interested in being Salonistas than in being h2g2 Researchers. Fine - that's their choice, but it isn't mine. For me, the Salon was just one small part of a much bigger thing called h2g2 that I loved, but it was becoming a ridiculously time-consuming and not always particularly enjoyable part of my time on the site.

I got increasingly irritated by the idea that if I was busy having a life elsewhere for a day or two, then when I logged on to h2g2 again I was somehow honour-bound to wade through dozens of Atelier posts before I could get on with something more constructive and reliably interesting. Now and again a really good discussion happens in the Salon, but a lot of the time I found the chatter there... shall we say, less than fascinating. Life really is too short to spend it reading lists of the shoes owned by people you'll probably never meet.

The last straw for me was when a couple of eminently sensible suggestions were made about how the backlogs could be made more manageable for occasional visitors, but were rejected on the grounds that if you're a true Salonista, then you 'should' just love ploughing through the backlogs. Fine. In that case, like I said, I'm not a Salonista.

However, once again, it's nice to see you here. I hope I'll carry on seeing you and some of the other Salonistas elsewhere on h2g2. I notice that Amy the has a new Entry in Peer Review - I must go and take a look!

I'll be around. And anyway I have made you a friend so any journal you write is landing among my conversations . As do the journals from other people I've put on the list.

I've made the 'mistake' to subscribe to the entry where all the discussions about the British elections derive - and to AWW - so I can pick and choose among a vast amount of interesting subjects.

But from tomorrow (Tuesday) and on to Sunday I'll be at a two-day Union meeting then go on to Copenhagen to visit my daugther, her BF and my grandson - then on Saturday a mini-meet in Copenhagen with (definite attendants) Milla (Sweden), Hati (Estonia) and Pierce (Denmark).
