I haven't seen it yet but the opening shot in Bowling for Columbine was filmed 6 blocks from my house. Michael is trying to figure out why the North Country Bank is giving away a gun for opening an account(only in america). I have tried to rent the movie but every copy is out! By the way, I heard the U.S. army has found a protractor, a ream of graph paper and an abacus in Bagdad. Finally, instruments of Math Instruction!

Great gag! Though I'm not sure they ever found anything as dangerous as a protractor...
THAT was your local bank? I'd be afraid to go out of the front door! What are the levels of gun crime like round your way?
Anyway, I hope you get to see 'Columbine' soon. It is a truly amazing movie. I'm sure you'll find it worth the wait!

I saw the film last night. We have almost no gun violence. People around here shoot mostly whitetail deer and once and awhile their spouse. I think Michael Moore is the last person in america who hasn't fallen asleep under the evil oil wizard's spell.

I know, and I'm obviously going to have to update the Moore entry to include it. But after all the recent h2g2 upheavals, I'm not sure what the procedure for updates is.
I could already offer a brief blurb on 'Dude', as I've read some very positive reviews and some terrific extracts in 'The Guardian'. I must say, though, that for someone who so strenuously opposes exploitation, Mr Moore doesn't half charge a lot for his own books. £18.99 for what is a fairly slim seems more than a little steep. There's £3 off in Waterstone's, but even so I think I might wait for the paperback.

It's 11.99 in Ottakars, 12.99 in WH Smiths.
At least, it is in Sunderland.

...and it may be slightly harsh to blame him for the prices Penguin charge for his book.

oh and also, I believe slight updates are to be suggested at "Editorial FeedbacK"- well, that's where I'm suggesting updates to one of my entries, anyway.

Hmm... well, I'll have to check again in the Bradford WH Smiths. I didn't see any offer stickers on it the last time I looked there, but that may have changed. At £11.99 or £12.99 I just might be able to run to a copy!
I know that Mr Moore is not his own publisher, and I do take the point that the cover price of his books isn't primarily his fault. Even so, I'd imagine that he would have some input into the pricing. He's such a top seller now that the publishers would certainly want to keep him happy.
I'll try the Editorial Feedback route to update the entry when I get a chance, but right now I should be doing some Uni coursework. Busy, busy, busy...

Apparently, its 8.99 on amazon, which'll be less than twelve quid even with P and P added.
I'm only online because my lecture's been cancelled, I'm sure I've got coursework as well, I'm just not in the right frame of mind.

I owe MM and Penguin an apology. The cover price of 'Dude...' is actually £17.99, not £18.99. So about that. Still seems a bit steep, though...

I checked out a TV Nation videocassette and a double DVD of The Awful Truth from the library on Monday and returned them today.
Books from the library are free and my local library is online so I can reserve things right from home and they send me an email and hold the book as soon as its returned. Oh how I love 'lectristity!
