I declared our upper garden at an end today when I harvested the last of the turnips and dug up the asparagus roots for transplanting. Then I threw open the gate to the chicken yard and let the hens have at what remained: weeds, frost-damaged tomatos, brussels sprouts that the aphids got. The birds appreciated. That particular patch of land didn't do too well for a garden, so we're going to use it for a chicken yard for a few years and see if that helps any.
