Today I bought a hunting license and went deer-hunting for the very first time ever.
We didn't see one single solitary deer, let alone a legal-sized buck.
But it was still good exercise, and the longer I live here, the more I love our land. In the late afternoon in the fall our canyon is a peaceful place, with birdcalls and little rustlings in the brush and the leaves turned all red. The stream at the bottom is flowing well this season, and that's one of the more soothing sounds on earth as well.
I'd certainly like to put some venison in the freezer, but just being out on the land is enough benefit to justify the hunt.
