Well, we've finally, after two weeks of frantic shoving of furniture, shifting of stuff, and throwing away of things we either never knew we had, never knew we had so many of, or just didn't want in the first place, managed to move out of the first floor of the building down to the ground floor.
This week consisted of the following:
Monday: Arrive ridiculously early for telephone engineers to relocate the ISDN-30, ISDN-2 and ADSL lines. Run around like a headless chicken all day sorting out telephone extension sockets, miscellaneous wiring, and wait while the BT Engineer manages somehow to 'lose' the incoming ADSL line, and ends up trotting up the street to the junction box to put a trace on the line, only to then find the lost line two wires away from where he left it. Leave at 6:15pm absolutely *******ed out.
Tuesday: More miscellaneous wiring, moving of fileservers and general connecting of things.
Wednesday: Dismantling of old computer room, including false floor, more cable than BT probably have, and so forth.
Thursday: Finish dismantling of computer room and discover big hole in concrete floor that needs to be filled before the new tenants move in. Also discover that most of the power in the new print room downstairs seems to be mysteriously fed from a distribution panel on the computer room wall.
Friday: Frantic mains rewiring in downstairs print room. Lots of crawling around and getting stuck under tables swearing at cables and enormous quantities of yellow A4 files that someone has unaccountably left in a giant heap just where I need to get some cables laid.
Saturday: (Tomorrow) Working with the fellow lunatics at Ladbrokes, Waterlooville. Pop in and say hi if you dare.
Sunday: Recovery, possibly.
Monday: Last day of work for a week! Yay! I may not particularly celebrate christmas, not being that way religiously inclined, but the time off is very welcome (I went to a church of England school, and nothing puts you off christianity more than that. Sorry if that offends you. Actually, I'M NOT SORRY if that offends you, because if you can't cope with other people having religious freedom then you have learnt nothing from your own religion - Certainly the headmaster at that school had a passionate hatred for anything non-C.of.E which translated into random punishments just for asking the 'wrong' questions).
There endeth the rant for today.
