Back at the ground, it would seem, for another two years.

It's been a while since the last report, mainly due to lack of time for such things.

Suffice it to say that Portsmouth are not used to being in this position in the league table, unless it happens to be the Division 1 (as it was) league table of four years back. The current position (one point clear of Manchester United, at the top of the table) is having a huge beneficial effect on morale in Portsmouth, and a fairly negative impact on betting shop profits...

Suddenly, Portsmouth have got good at football. This may come as a surprise to some (and it certainly has come as a surprise for many a supporter and bookmaker). For what it's worth, we are quoting 4/9 for them to win away in the Carling cup match on Tuesday night.

The rumour mill has been busy. My spies within local government tell me that the planning application for Farlington railway station has been resubmitted. Now, as about the only thing at Farlington is one great empty space, and a Sainsburys (appologies to anyone living in Farlington), why would you want a train station there with Havant, Bedhampton, and Cosham nearby, unless you are expecting a large (say, 45,000) number of people to turn up, to, umm, do something like watch a game of football. Nice and convenient for the A 27, M 27, and A 3(M) too.

Of course, nothing in the way of news from the club. They are, after all, a premiership side, and consequently will say nothing, even after it becomes painfully obvious what they are doing. If the government wants to stop leaks from cabinet meetings, they should hire a typical football club to do so.

Next up at the shed is Bolton, on Monday night (25th September), one of two scheduled evening kick-off's this season. The other is on January 30th (so only one scheduled deep-freeze for me and the gang this season). I quite like evening kick-offs if the temperature stays this side of absolute zero (different rules of physics appear to apply to the north stand).

All for now.
