I like your homepage - ffmike. The farm looks really nice. I love it when people actually fill in their journals, because it is possible to get to know them then...
I would love to keep chickens..

Such praise. I must
*blush*
Whew, now that's out of the way. Thanks for the compliments. I think I'm using H2G2 as a sort of online writing workshop...limber up the thinking muscles each day by writing a bit here before I go off to compose yet another boring computer article. That pays the bills but this is more fun...and addictive.
If you want more farm pictures, there are a bunch on my wife's website at www.2frogs.net ... though I suspect your web-surfing time might be a bit limited, what with the new joy and the horde of prospective SubEditors clamoring at the door and all.
As for chickens: they are remarkably easy to keep. There's even a book out there (The Backyard Poultry Book, by Andrew Singer) that concentrates on keeping chickens in suburban England.

Even I am addicted ffmike- This is supposed to be my day off!
A friend of mine used to keep two chickens in her back garden. Called Grimsby (the ugly one) and Simla (beautiful one). I would love to buy some. I think it would keep the dog a bit too 'well entertained' whilst I was at work.... what do you think?!

Well, it is possible to make a pet of a chicken...not sure I would recommend it, though, as they really are pretty dumb birds. They don't call them "bird-brains" for nothing.
Our two dogs have learned to leave the chickens alone. They understand that these are mommy & daddy's birds and that they need to find something else to chase. Fortunately there are always the barn kitties as a distraction.
But I suppose it depends on why you'd want the chicken...meat...eggs...pet?

Hello. I am Teaserman. I am in the process of buzzing every forum in the H2G2 universe. Buzz. Thank you.

Good luck. I expect you're going to be in the same position as the mythical person trying to count all the Chinese marching past a fixed point -- there are too many new fora being born for you to ever visit them all. But have fun.

I admire the amount of output you are producing if many of the researchers out there who signed up wrote one thing and never were heard of again had given it a go, and written like you have, this whole thing would be a lot nearer completion, by completion I mean evertthing that is in the present not accounting for what is yet to come, by now.

Speaking of tasks that will never end... What was the name of that guy (or being) who insulted Arthur Dent once? The one who was to visit everyone in the Universe, in alphabetical order... That buzzing business reminds me of it...
By the way, ffmike - I'm very impressed with your... devotion... to this place. And I think I agree with what you said about possible improvements too, although I haven't understood enough to find most of the faults/shortcomings myself yet...

Well, thanks for the compliments, folks. I think H2G2 has the makings of a pretty special online place. I'm happy that they're trying to do something new, and I like being able to contribute to that. On the flipside, of course, I've got the usual strong alpha-male prejudices about the *right* way to do things, so I grouse as well. With luck the goodwill I build up from helping out isn't entirely wiped out by the whining
Just think of me as a member of the loyal opposition (I was really hoping to be a hereditary peer, though...oh well).
Ah yes, I remember that alphabetical insulter. Don't remember the name of the being, though. Been too darned long since I read the H2G2 books. They're all in this house...somewhere...

Hereditary Peers now there is an idea. We've had a virtual mayor we may as well add some virtual hereditary.
