I've run across something to relieve bordom for at least a few minutes http://209.68.1.93/emotionp/singalong/kirk.html , thought of it while looking at Shorty's site. Then again it might be better with a few shots of something in the 100 proof range.

, I put it right in there with Ed Wood movies ( Plan 9 from Outer Space , etc.), unintentional comedy.

What, you mean it's not because of its disharming naivety that you like it?!...

Well it is a site that has some less obvious merits . The chance to compare Shatner's version of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" and Nimoy's "Proud Marry" doesn't happen on that many sites. Now if anyone can tell me how his writing compares to his singing , I've seen a few books with Shatner listed as the author , but I've yet to feel enough change burning a hole in my pocket to spring for one.

Sorry: meant to write 'his' not 'its' (as in: Ed Wood's disharming naivety). I haven't yet joined the ranks of Shatner fandom -am I clearly missing out here?

Oh , I wouldn't call it missing out. As an old trekie , I have to say I think the original series could have been better if the other characters had been expanded a bit . Then again longer episodes , no comercials , better writing .... hmm maybe a lead called " the doctor " ... nope never fly here. Actually Shatner seemed to tone down a bit by the time the movies were made , I liked the ones where they were obviously having fun playing the old characters . Of course I have a very minority opinion , I also liked Shwartznegger when he was doing comedy ( Twins etc. ) or just playing ( True Lies ) even though the critics give those very thourough pannings.
Ed Wood , few will ever gain as solid a place in history for determination in the face of insurmountable handycaps, best leave it at that. I wonder what things would have been like if he'd had something like American International around to work with ( Roger Corman's production house ).

BUT Ed Wood DID inspire that great Tim Burton movie. (+ isn't 'Plan 9 from outer space' supposed to be unexpectedly good? I haven't seen it but I have heard it said.)

Plan 9 is good, for a b-movie. If you go into watching it without any expectations but to enjoy yourself and have afew laughs, then you won't be disappointed. But you may want to skip Glen or Glenda. It makes its point, but isn't all that entertaining...

Unfortunately for Ed Wood , most of the better parts of his movies were the errors rather then what was intended , that and writing was bad enough to be funny ( also unintended ). Don't get me wrong , I have enjoyed watching a few of them , but in the "B" movies I'll take a Corman production any day ( Death Race 2000 , The Raven etc. ) Remember all those old Vincent Price , Edgar Allen Poe movies ( often with Peter Laurie ) ? They were slapped together in a week or two , cost next to nothing in film terms , and were eminently entertaining , often funny and generally well paced.
