'History' is just another word for 'gossip about dead people'. I hope this entertains. I snuck in some actual facts about the Mexican War and whose fault it was.

I added the pictures because I was afraid you wouldn't believe me if you didn't see them. Ulysses S Grant was cute once. And his wife talked like Scarlett O'Hara.

"The US Army liked its mules to be colour-coordinated." -

"He'd fallen in the creek." - is there a bit more of a story in that sentence?

No. He was wearing borrowed clothes because he'd fallen in the creek and got his uniform wet.

I wondered which creek and where the clothes came from

Information added, though nobody will be much the wiser. I had no idea where Gravois Creek was, and I've lived in St Louis. It flows into Lake of the Ozarks, so now you know.
