A couple of days ago, I picked up my copy of the 'New Yorker' and started reading an article about Saidiya Hartman. Amazingly, this academic writer was doing exactly what we're trying to do in the November Create - find the holes in history.

I stopped reading in the middle of the article, because I couldn't wait to find one of her books.

After I read the book, I felt the need to share it with the Guide.

And yes, the subject matter is going to be hard to take. Sorry.

Superbly written Entry - conveys the flavour of Saidiya Hartman’s book really well. I can visualise how the book tells history from the different angles, making it like a detective investigation, rather than a simple narrative from one perspective as history can so often be.
