For instance, your first long quote probably needs:
The Illustrated London News, vol. 43, no. 1215, p. 102. August 1, 1863.
You could add a link:
http://beck.library.emory.edu/iln/browse.php?id=iln43.1215.001
Or any other link you prefer.

Hi
I thought that I made it quite clear that it was based on that article
right at the outset.
And your view of what Historians do is not mine.. My kind of Historian raises questions that are relevant to the present, and if I recall now that piece was written in the light of "Ferguson".

I love it when people raise questions.
But if we want to publish Guide Entries, we need to give sources. It's not hard to do, and will not detract from what you're saying. (To see what I mean, look in PR for the one I just wrote on Ben Franklin.)
We just need to say where the info's coming from.

Dmitri
All fair comment.. But as you notice I have never set out to write Guide Entries.. I associate that whole idea with the dead hand (or head) of the Encyclopaedist trend apparently started in English modesty and refined to the idea of fountains of all wisdom and knowledge by the French circle that grew around Voltaire...It led to the whole idea of Scientific determinism and what John Ralston Saul called "The Dictatorship of Reason in the West" (1992)...
Having written about that article on the New York Riots, however, it looked like something that I might submit to the h2g2 "machine".. But have absolutely no objection to it being kicked back into the oblivion where most of what I have posted on h2g2 resides.
Life must move on

Author: CASSEROLEON - U11049737
I think the big question with this is do you wish it to become an Edited Guide Entry? It certainly has potential, but how open do you feel about some changes being made?
For instance, although the entry is about events in 1863 there are numerous mentions of parallels from Anglo-Saxon England to 20th Century India. How would you feel about, say, moving some of these into Footnotes so that they don't distract too much from the main focus of 1863 New York?
With regards the quotations, as you have the title 'THE “ILLUSTRATED LONDON NEWS” REPORT' at the start, are most of these quotes from the Illustrated London News? If so, you could simply state at the start 'All quotations from the The Illustrated London News August 1863 unless specified ' - possibly adding the link too and/or 'vol. 43, no. 1215, p. 102. August 1, 1863'.- and use footnotes elsewhere in the text for any quotes from elsewhere.
Common words and phrases like "the North", "the South", "trigger", "minutemen" don't need to be in quotation marks, though.

How do you see this entry going forward?
How familiar are you with h2g2's Peer Review process? Do you have any questions about it that you'd like me to answer?
Just to clarify, entries that are Recommended from Peer Review have a duplicate version created, so changes by the subeditor are made to the second Recommended copy while the original stays exactly how the original author left it.
Are you willing to work with others, such as, say, a subeditor to get this entry polished? Or would you feel upset if it is changed and tweaked in any way?
The question is, if you do not want to work on this any more, make any changes yourself or allow anyone else to make any changes to a potential Recommended copy, did you want to remove it from Peer Review? Or would you feel happy answering a subeditor's questions and making amendments as a possible Recommended version of the entry is shaped to fit the house style, which all entries that make it through Peer Review are?

Hi Bluebottle
Thanks for your post...As I have already said I do not feel able or inclined to work on that topic...Actual American domestic History is not really my domain or interest, and my "useful time" is always over-loaded anyway with too many other things on my 'to do' list in this life...But I would have no objection if anyone else feels like making use of what I have done.. In that case, would you mind if this was removed from Peer Review and submitted to Flea Market? If you can do this yourself, that would be ideal – if not, feel free to ask me to do this for you.
