SashaQ's NaJoPoMo 3 - Art

When I was at school, I always struggled in Art classes - whereas in Maths or French I would get 'A's, in Art my marks were pretty much always nearer the 'D' end of the spectrum and as a result I didn't really enjoy the subject. Lessons generally consisted of us students using either sketching pencils or poster paint and attempting to impress the teacher with our still life creations...

After my final Art lesson (the following year, I would start my GCSE courses, and I had chosen not to do Art, unsurprisingly) I somehow discovered watercolours and found I got on quite well with them - I wasn't up to the standard of my artist ancestors, but most importantly I enjoyed the painting process.

I spent all that summer painting our garden at home, and the following year I spent ages crafting pictures of various colourful butterflies against blurred backgrounds. Some time after that, I worked on a few pegasuses and unicorns, and then I moved on to painting pictures of buildings and scenery.

I was always reluctant to draw or paint people, because my efforts at portraits in school had been so bad, but one day I received inspiration (and a set of pastels) that persuaded me to try new techniques, and it was surprisingly successful (even though I did say so myself).

These days I can't claim to be an artist, but I still enjoy what I do and am pleased when a painting turns out vaguely like the image I had in my head. As a result I have shared a bit of my work on the internet! Useful for illustrating my Edited Guide Entries, too smiley - biggrin

Thank you smiley - biggrin

I must admit I was impressed by the dancing, too - my dancers are a bit cartoon Manga-esque, having improbably long legs, but the proportions worked surprisingly well in the animation! smiley - laugh
