The Bathroom Theory
sabrielschild Started conversation Jun 13, 2005
There are many less well known theories to how the universe came into existance.
Amongst these are:
The Teacup Theory
The Marble Theory
The Pendant Theory
The Banana Theory and
The Bathroom Theory.
Now, The Bathroom Theory, I feel, is one of the more interesting and bizarre Theories. Probably because it's one of my own.
The Universe (multiverse, whatever) is like a bathroom because...:
You know that black sludge in between the tiles in your bathroom? You keep meaning to scrub it off, but you just never get round to it. Right? Well, put a bolt of lightning through that lot and you'd have your own little ecosystem. Life begins to develop. It thrives on the light from the "sun" (your ceiling light in the bathroom). There is a plentiful supply of rivers and lakes from when you took a shower and never wiped away the excess water. At night, the stars come out. It's only light being refracted through the frosted glass in your window. But they're not to know that. Their sky is your blue shower curtain and their summer breeze is your extractor fan circulating air around the room. Their black holes are the plugs in your sink and bath. Their "wormholes" are your toilet. Their whole universe is the bathroom of your house but they can't see that because of the steam from your shower that they call the atmosphere. Give them a month or so and they'd be so highly developed, they'd be launching space craft into the air to try and find out "what's out there". (Unfortunately, the entire space fleet was wiped out before it got anywhere due to an incident with a large, blue Standard Life umbrella that their government does not wish to discuss.)
See? The Universe could be ANYTHING. I mean, the above is highly improbable but not impossible. Just like our own universe...?

You sci-fi freak!
Did you watch the Simpsons where Lisa's created a world in a shoebox, I think?
You can put all this, and develop it a bit, into an entry.
How 'bout that?

I can GML it for you if you like, and send it to you all fixed up. I used to be a Scout and a Sub editor on here, so I have it under my belt. Or so...
I'm going for my honeymoon to Scotland! Any recommendations regarding where to stay and what to do?
I'm no hiker, nor a drinker, I like museums but not too much, I love the theatre.... ideas?

one word: Edinburgh. I don't live there but I live nearby and it really is a beautiful city. there are museums and theatres a-plenty (with a few good shows running at the moment); plenty of picturesque streets to get lost in ; there's the castle, of course; Dynamic Earth (which is good if your into science and nature etc.); the Camera Obscura (lots of cool optical illusions, experiments and you can spy on the streets of edinburgh ); Princes Street if you like shopping (!); café's, restaurants, hotels, other attractions... and the edinburgh festival is on just now as well, which is great fun. Lol. Do you like the big city idea?

Hi Taz
Does this mean that I shouldn't clean my bathroom for fear of wiping out a whole new civilisation ? Sounds good to me!
Popped over to rave about Northern Lights (as I'm still trying to get everyone I know to read it) A friend lent me a Maggie Furey book but it just isn't as good.
Been to Edinburgh a few times (once on a day trip from Leeds , my Dads idea ) and loved it. We have a camera obscura in bristol too. (actually we get the same effect in our attic when the suns out??)
Too late for me now, cheerio

Well, we live outside of Liverpool, so cities don't impress me much, but yes, I was told Edinburgh is very pretty, and we shall probably go there. My cousin lives in Glasgow, so I guess it's a choice between those two, especially since we don't own a car.
We'll be coming at the end of October, though, so won't it be cold?
