Scooze my ignorance but can anyone enlighten me as to how many countries (other than France and its ex-colonies) use the dot as the separator and the comma as the point?
If you try doing a simple sum (like adding up a column of figures) in 'French' Excel, it's impossible.
And if you can understand 'French' long division (longhand) you are a better man than I!
It could explain a lot!

I think all of Europe does. It was very confusing for me when I had to learn that (yet again) the Brits did it the other way round. It can still happne that I get it 'wrong' when writing in English.
