There seems to be a ring of pages of real h2g2 regulars that exists. I'm an extremely fringe member of that group. Try Monsy's page www.h2g2.com/u40408 for the links to a lot of regulars.

I have my most enjoyable time here clicking open the user's online window and reading what random people have to say about the world. (I like to reply, especially if the site seems overlooked by others)

Hi Anna - since I started at my new job & acquired a PC from which to work, I try and visit h2g2 every weekday. My routine is to visit all the links on the front page I haven't read yet. Once at the new pages, if they grab my attention I'll follow a link to the home page of the researcher responsible. I'll also look at the forums and if I feel inspired by the topic, I'll contribute.

I visit my own page each day to see if anybody's replied to my forum postings. I frequently visit home pages of people who are interesting, funny, witty etc in the forums.

There aren't enough hours in the day to spend the kind of time I'd like to in h2g2 - I'm thinking of cloning m'self so that Dandy Peg #2 can be my 24/7 researcher!

I generally approach h2g2 one of two ways:

1) when I actually have or want something to do, such as editing an article or updating my own page, I focus on that one thing and try not to stray too far, which is often difficult

2) full surf mode - sometimes it's fun to just click a link at random, whether it be to a user page or an entry, and then follow where that takes you. I sort of enjoy posting along the way and then surfing to the user pages of people who reply, and so forth.

Okay, re-reading this, it sounds like the Idiot's Guide to h2g2, I mean, duh, but I'll leave it just because I feel like sharing And besides, I wanted to join the legions and say a big "welcome!"

My method is to click on forums that 'friends' have contributed to, encourage topic drift & then stir up contentious issues.

Ah, so those the kinds of things I should be doing, eh? Good to know. I *did* pop in to see Kate's page, and was very pleased to see that I got a mention!

Just click and click til you find something or some one.
The thing I tend to do is to bringup the researchers online and then go to their pages. If they've posted t a forum recently then it shows on their page, and the chances are if you post on it aswell, you'll get a reply reasonably quickly. And if you want to know a little more about them, read their journal. I do, but them I'm the nosey sort.
Ask Peta as well, she's always online.

Anna, you could visit TV's Frink and sign up for the unofficial H2G2 softball team - 'The Rambling Misfits' over at http://www.h2g2.com/U37846 and then pop into the softball clubhouse 'Frinks Drinks' for a quick drink? Sounds extremely active... and sociable, too! My kind of place. Might drop into the library for a quiet time though (had quite a busy weekend).

well - browsing through the "ask h2g2" is almost always fun... and I sometimes click on a random bookmark (yes. 4 weeks and more than half of my bookmarks are h2g2 - lazy sod that I am ) and follow a conversation there to some new dimension. that's how I came to this...
and if you do some online writing/searching/whatever, you could always join in a game of bubsters I SPY... momentarily at http://www.h2g2.com/forumframe.cgi?forum=1296&thread=20803, but we need almost daily a new thread (just advertising...).
