Edward the Bonobo - Gone. Started conversation May 31, 2005
...is that there is more than one person in the world who actually reads Gore Vidal! I've just borrowed his "The City and the Pillars" from the library - early short stories, suppressed for reasons of sexuality. It will be interesting reading them, having read his autobiography. Is Creation good? I've also got Julian and Burr in my 'waiting to get around to' pile.
Welcome to h2g2. Enjoy!

Well, I have to say that I like the "Creation". It's kind of interesting to learn about the development of ideas at that time. But it's a bit hard to read - the story develops slowly and there are a lot of descriptions and explanations. It took me half a year to read 2/3rds of the book and I am usually a very fast reader!
I never read anything else by him. Is this is his usual style?

Let's say...he's not always the most easy author to get into.
Have you ever heard him on politics, especially on what he insists on calling 'The American Empire'? He's very good whenever he's on TV.
His 'The Golden Age' was about how the Roosevelt administration goaded Japan into attacking. An intersting perspective - with a lot of truth to it!

No, haven't seen him on TV. But I read some interviews with him. Again the "American Empire" theme. Very smart guy. A bit sharp though - wouldn't want to be the journalist interviewing him
