I'm not sure why you're entering this particular article in the fun run, since the run's purpose is to improve an article. I wouldn't change a thing...it's informative, well written, and has your trademark dry wit sprinkled throughout. Here's a 9 to chew on in the corner.

I always wondered about this day - and now I know where it came from. A good article, and not a Bill Murrey [sp?] in sight!

Thanks Tree!!
I felt the film was something of a stinker too! It's a huge holiday here in Pennsylvania! We all talk about Phil and his predictions for weeks before and after the big day...
When it's warm and he saw his shadow we quip, "Bloody groundhog! Where's the snow?"
And when it's cold and he didn't see the shadow, "Bloody groundhog! Where's the sun?"

"His predictions rarely, if ever, accurately predict the weather for the next six weeks." -- Are you sure about that? It seems to me that just sheer random chance would make him more accurate than that.
You might want to make it explicit that "Phil" changes identity from time to time, and that this is not some sort of immortal groundhog.
I would presume there is a connection between the dachs and the dachshund (which would literally be "dachs dog", of course). If you can winkle this out it would make a nice aside -- or even another entire guide entry.
Can't think of anything else to add here. Good job.

Good eye on dachshound...they are literally badger dogs. That's why they're so low to the ground - to go into badger holes.
As for Phil being immortal - I like to think that he is! I'm working on finding a listing of how accurate his predictions are, and when I do I'll add that in. Random chance should make it 50-50, but when you consider that it's drunken random chance, the odds fall rapidly!
Thanks for stopping by!

Yes I did! I was actually looking for it this past Feb.. I thought you had the link to Pete's homepage. When I discovered this thread lying about and followed it here, I was hoping to find it in your original.

Nope! I didn't know Phil had a home page!
The Approved version is at http://www.h2g2.com/A219755
But there's no link in it either. Sorry!
