The second to last paragraph has a phrase "to listen to make merry" which doesn't sound right to me but over all I thought this had excellent coverage of tghe topic and was well laid out.

That's because the phrase "...music and to make merry..." got eaten by this piece of junk PC!
(It's never operator error when one is working on a Wintel machine!)
Sorry about the screw up and I'll sneak in there and edit it before the fun run "officially" begins!
Thanks for your input/catch Ginger!!

Good informative article, tightly written. Maybe include some famous Groundhog Day ancedotes to lighten it up even further and make people want to attend the celebrations. (Or avoid). 8/10
Next February 2 I will raise my glass and join you in a drink. Mid-summer in NZ so I imagine we will be dressed differently. Cheers.

One could argue that it would be keeping in character for you to wear a parka in February and when someone asks, you could say...
"It's Groundhog Day, dum-dum! Why are you wearing your coat?!?"
Thanks for the review!

I liked it - better than the movie of the same name anyway
I got a bit lost in the 1st paragraph - maybe it would be better split into 2. I think the long place name threw me (like the Australians can complain about long place names - the place is liberally sprinkled with place names that sound suspiciously like Wheelyabarrowback & Kickatinalong).

Good point and noted!! I think I'll also add a pronunciation guide for the town's name as those Indian names can be intense if you're not from around here.
BTW: It's pronounced "Punk - se -taw - ney"

>winter, if he does not
right after winter, I would use a semi-colon ";"
>When he doesn't see his shadow, the crowd goes crazy with cheers. When he predicts more winter, they batter him and the tuxedo-clad handlers with boos and catcalls.
You should be consistent: "When he doesn't see his shadow...", so the next line should follow "when he does see his shadow...", not "when he predicts more winter..."
Oh, how about adding a link to the movie "Groundhog's Day"? Hmm? Certainly is accurate to a degree...

Great!
One thing though, I am suprised you didn't mention the movie with Bill Murray.... That's the only way I heard of this festival before!

I liked this a lot. Excuse my ignorance, but I'd only seen the movie and so assumed that the groundhog thing was entirely fictional. Well it is obviously entirely fictional in one respect, but with a real party at the end.
For me, I'm not sure if you need the last two paragraphs as there is a bit of duplication of phrases. You could maybe strip it out into one paragraph written in the third person and then maybe add a footnote in the second person as this maintains the personal perspective in the article. Footnotes are good for little 'asides'.
Something like...
----
In the pre-dawn hours, people gather in varying degrees of intoxication to listen to music and to make merry before the great groundhog's appearance. If he doesn't see his shadow the crowd goes crazy with cheers. If he predicts more winter then they taunt him and his tuxedo-clad handlers with boos and catcalls. His predictions are rarely accurate, of course, but it's always a great party.[*]
[*footnote]
You can be sure it'll be blisteringly cold in Punxsutawney in the early hours of Groundhog Day and there is always the chance of heavy snow, so remember to wear some warm clothes if you go.
---
Jeez, I hacked it all up. Maybe I should point out my 'Sub-Ed Learner' plates!

Thanks for the parallel construction help! As for a link for the movie, 1) I hated it! 2) I didn't know there was a page for it. 3) I didn't bother to look!
I'll check into this first thing in the a.m. (my time).
Thanks!!

I hated the movie!! And I went ahead and did the h2g2 search tonight and didn't find a page for the movie so ...
LOL!
I had originally titled this page Groundhog Day (no I don't mean the movie) but I thought it was to trite. Maybe I was wrong. I've never been able to sit through the whole movie so I couldn't even begin to write something up about it other than it start Bill Murray and Andie McDowell.
Thanks for reading!

But you make a good point! I only threw in that other bit at the end because I went to university near there and we would all spend the day drunk in town....
And once I thougt we were all going to die from exposure, even though we knew about how awful the weather is!
I'll take a look at this and try to remodel it sometime after the Fun Run is over. I don't like to tinker during the run because someone else might tell me that you (speaking hypothetically since I'm sure nobody would say this about you!) were totally potty and that the last 'graph reads fine.
I happen to agree with you and I promise to fix it so some poor Subbie won't have to!
Thanks for the read!!

I would love to do a pro-bono on the movie for you... I think it is something that most people identify with the town, and you could even suggest that people watch the movie, just to get an idea about the festival
