How do you guys like the West Wing? I never got into it.
I've been stopping bye. Work is a little crazy, I've got a talk to give on Tuesday, and another one in October. So I'm putting everything I've done into some kind of story format that will make sense, hopefully.
Anyway, I figured out how to record TV onto my computer, so I've been doing that and watching family guy and south park when I get home from work, which is nice. My roomates have been *blasting* the air conditioning non-stop, even when it wasn't really that hot, and guess what? The unit blew out. Ahh well...

I didn't know you had roommates.
Nog and I are loving The West Wing. And as soon as the basmati rice is done we're going to sit down for another episode or two.
Have you seen the newest love of my life? I mean I *know* it's just a machine, and there's no way I can buy one, but it's just so dámn gorgeous ...

Meanwhile, it's the last week of holidays. Did you have summer holidays?
How's J? How are you, other than having idiot roommates?

Yeah, I've had roomates since I moved to DC. I save a lot of money that way. If I knew I'd be here longer, I'd buy something, but then again, with the housing crash, it's probably lucky I didn't.
I took a trip to Boston for J's graduation ceremony, and she visited on the 4th of July for a long weekend, and then we met up in Boston 2 weekends ago. Each of those times I took days off, but no solid block of vacation. I'm going out to visit J next weekend for another long weekend. We're doing OK, it's rough being such a very long distance, I can't wait for it to be over. But J's research is going really, really well, I've never heard her so excited about science in all the time I've known her, so I'm really glad she got that post-doc and moved out there.
How were your summer holidays, and what is the typical duration? I bet it was pretty sweet
I'm doing well, but I'm thinking about long term plans. I think right now I'm straddling the line between pure and applied science, and I think I need to move definitively one way or the other, to be happier. I also really hope that J and I end up back in Boston, I miss all of our friends there...
Well that was long and rambling, but thanks for asking! I'm slowly convincing J that we should take a really long vacation between the time we finish our post-docs and start our next jobs, and use that time to go to Europe. This is a long way in the future, but hopefully we could get to meet up then! I'll stop by the blog soon.

I think I'd be way too insecure to maintain a long-distance thing, so I think you and J are doing great. And also the time you had together before the 'separation' must have helped you both feel you could deal with this. Though I know it hasn't always been easy.
So ... how many roommates? Are you like, the head cheese, or do you share 'equally'?
Yeah, summer holidays are over. The usual month of August - a quiet 'stay at home' break. I actually loved it, especially going out for walks in the evenings. Oct-July I usually work until 9pm.
Have you decided which way you're going to go yet (pure or applied science)?
My friend Dogster has just got a job for a year in France doing research on theoretical neuroscience ... Nog is dead jealous. But I'm just hoping he settles in soon so we can resume our email scrabble games.
And now I'm off to sleep. Just had a late snack and watched another episode of West Wing. Soooooooooo addictive.
'night!

I can't believe this was posted 3 days ago...
Well, J and I are surviving, I'm visiting this weekend. I try not to thik/worry about long term and just get by.
I've got 4 roomates - still not enough by kea's standards for being eco friendly

Meh, OK. Insanely busy at work, sinus infection, too many projects. But I can see the light at the end of the tunnel (July), and then I'll take a couple months off to visit J.
