You missed the Nestles factory, there was an urban legend that if you could smell coffee in the air it was going to rain
I worked at the chocolate factory for a while

Its true - about the smell. I lived at Grosvenor Avenue (UB4 8NN) for twenty years and the smell of coffee and chocolate was very strong most Sunday mornings. I believe that this was due to prevailing winds. My mother also worked at the company you mentioned, and she told me that they were told that they could eat all the chocolate they wished. That soon put a stop to people nicking the stuff!

I heard that Cadbury's did that too, being able to eat all the chocolate you want soon put's you off

Heh, not really an urban legend.
The entire place smells of coffee ALL THE TIME.
And jet fuel.
To my fellow Hayesians (?) I would suggest going away for a couple of weeks, only when you return will you realise how bad the entire borough smells.

I must be mental, I'm planning on going back to Hayes and my old neighborhood to look up my old house (the house I was born in) over the weekend. I'm expecting to get a sudden case of "why the hell did I come back here?"
I must admit, Hayes is a dump - it used to be nice in the seventies, and then it went all the way downhill. The smell of urine and decay best describes it. Its been reduced to a third-rate joke of a town. You would never know that the noted George Orwell lived there once, would you?

I actually lived in Hanworth on the other side of the airport but I worked in Hayes and had a friend who lived in Hayes End so I visited a lot, I thought Hounslow was depressing

Hayes End isn't too bad (that's where I live), at least there's fields and woods around.
Shame about the local scum children though, lots of little darlings called Chantelle and Dylan and the like who you know are going to grow up to be neo-nazis...
Sorry, went on a bit of a rant there!
Hounslow is VERY depressing, although Van Gogh used to live in Isleworth, apparently...

Old Isleworth is ok but the rest by the station is a bit grim
