I have a particular vulnerabilty. An achilles heel I'd call it. Some people have this ability to turn my brain inside out and twisted.

anhaga gave me a great quote sometime ago from Tom Stoppard's, 'The Real Thing':-

'Henry: 'Jesus, Annie, you're beginning to appal me. There's something scary about stupidity made coherent. I can deal with idiots, and I can deal with sensible argument but I don't know how to deal with you. Where's my cricket bat?..'

Yeah so this thing that really terrifies me because it does *literally* do something very horrible to my mind is, 'stupidity made coherent'.

Apparent coherency invites you in..you are inside feeling comfortable, relaxed..looking forward to communication by the cosy fire..settled down or even just standing next to the fire, warming your brains. You are all ears....and then....and then...you are spinning, dizzy...the lights are flickering..you are profoundly disorientated...You can't tell up from down or left from right...and yet...and yet everything is till just as it was at the same time..the cosy fire, the comfy chair..even the cat asleep in the corner..

This is 'stupidity made coherent'.

That sounds freaky. And a bit scary. It's not nice if someone messes with your head.

There has been a great deal of unpleasantness (to `put it mildly) here on h2g2. Friendly teasing is one thing, but it has crossed into the malicious a little too often for my taste.

Effers, I really do recommend you find a copy of the Real Thing. I find it so absolutely relevant to the current situation surrounding a certain protest movement, particularly as manifest here on hootoo and also here in Edmonton where I live.

Plus it's just a darn funny and great play.smiley - smiley

Shall send off for it tonight from Amazon.

I'm seeing my friend on wednesday to discuss Occupy. She is highly intelligent and a very successful artist, professionally..and a really lovely person. I'm certain if you met her you'd like her. Even though a French Basque..she has picked up British humour brilliantly.

The great thing is she will always listen to my view sympathetically..even if diametrically opposed to her politics. She will be an excellent person to thrash things out with. Also as she gets older she is looking to do more practical stuff in the community..rather than doing youf thing.

We might only spend 10 seconds on Occupy though smiley - snork and just get into the usual laughing stuff...we might spend most of the time laughing at Occupy..that's what she's like.

I'm keeping away from the actual thread now.

Yes there is some nasty stuff happening.

Someone's none too bright minder has nearly sent me round the bend. That quote has kept me sane.

I ended up in hospital once in my life because my very sensitive intelligence was 'raped' once in my life..ie by 'stupidity made coherent'. Now I have that phrase as protection. It so completely sums up the confusing experience of taking as *sense* that which is *nonsense*

You don't know what you've given me.

And one can never get enough high quality in one's life.

smiley - run Amazon...-> Real Thing.
