I'm now in two book groups, and have been to a meeting of the 'younger' one tonight. Younger in two senses: formed more recently (last summer) and the average age of the members is about 30 years younger than I am, whereas the other book group it's only about 20 years!
Anyway, it was a good laugh. As the name suggests, we meet at a pub (various different ones, according to who is organising the meeting, and how we vote - via Doodle poll http://www.doodle.com/ ), and this evening we were due to start at 6.30, so a group of us went straight to the pub after work and had a bite to eat.
We were discussing 'Ghostwalk' by Rebecca Stott: a Cambridge-set ghost story, by a Cambridge author. Lots of holes were picked in the geography: "she said you could see Trinity out of the window of level 5 in the UL and you can't" - most of the group members work in various University libraries! The plot and characterisation also came in for some criticism.
It's not the sort of book I would normally choose to read (I have to admit to avoiding reading it late at night when home alone!), but that's why I'm in book groups ...

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
