Freshers arriving

Town is full of freshers and their concerned parents this weekend - most of them apparently buying up the entire contents of the household goods section of John Lewis.
I went into the office this afternoon for a couple of hours to try and get some stats done. I've been working on them for the last week or so, but wanted to have an uninterrupted stint with no emails or phonecalls. Very satisfactory.
Dropped in to the student cafeteria where tea/coffee and cake was on offer for the new arrivals. Not many people around, but the chocolate cake was yummy!
Now finishing various chores at home, because I'm going to be out for the next four evenings - very unusual for me! (Monday - girls' tea, then French conversation class, Tuesday - College Feast for new students, Wednesday - book group, Thursday - after-work drinks with Admissions Secretaries from all the colleges).

John Lewis? Nae short o' a few bob, then.
Up here Asda was full of new and returning students last weekend and the weekend before. Ditto Sainsburys. This was good because it gave the new batch a chance to speak with the some of the 2010 graduates, working the tills and stacking the shelves.
Your week sounds kinda nice and I envy you your cake. Susan will hopefully be getting nice cake and cawffee this week, a legacy of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
I'm out on Tuesday (Carmen). but that's all for the week for me.

JL appeared to have a range of 'student essentials' at reasonable prices, although what today's students regard as essentials is rather different from when I started university - my mum and I went to London on the train, with a suitcase each. No chance of transporting plants, boxes of CDs/DVDs, standard lamps etc etc - mind you, CDs didn't exist then, and neither did portable-sized computers for that matter!
