Haven't reported on these this term, and it was the last one yesterday. Martine used to like hearing about them (smiley - sadface where is she?).

Yesterday's was given by a final-year Philosophy undergraduate. I can remember when she arrived at the College, just over two years ago - there was a little story about her in the TES, because she was the first student from her school to get into Oxbridge. Since then she has been consistently brilliant - in her first year she got the best Philosophy results in the university.

Anyway, the seminar was about ... um ... dispositions. I could just about follow that it was about the logic of the way we describe objects, but once the mathematicians started asking questions at the end of the presentation, they lost me.

Previous seminars this term have been on Keats (last week - missed it), medieval attitudes to saints (whether praying to them was a first or last resort in case of illness), and something else which I can't remember at the moment.

Lovely sunny day again here. My usual Sunday lunch companion has gone to Wales for a week on a Welsh language course, so I've got to decide where to go for my Sunday roast.

My boss came back from maternity leave last week, and while it is lovely to have her back, it seems to be generating more, rather than less work!

Ah, your Picturehouse surely didn't have a free Friends preview of Pan's Labyrinth at 11 this morning then. There was one in Aiberdeen and I would have gone myself if I didn't have a ton of work on...

Did you see this:

No, no free preview as far as I know - although I saw the trailer for Pan's Labyrinth this afternoon and it didn't appeal, I'm afraid. This was when I was at the Picturehouse to see The Prestige, which was ... erm ... rather tedious. Nearly went to sleep.

Rowan Pelling is a bit snooty about Cambridge restaurants, isn't she? But that Cotto place sounds good - I can't visualise exactly where it is, although it must be quite near where I live. Have never been to Bruno's Brasserie, but have heard it's pretentious and over-priced. Eilis has been there I think, so she may have more to add.
