Just read dagesh's journal - think I have a fairly eremitical life too, although I do see people at work.
Went to work today - Maths Open Day. Very few participants, but that's probably because it was the first time we've joined in this University-wide event. If we do it again next year (and I think we probably should), we might get more bookings. As it is, I had quite a few last-minute enquiries which I had to turn away, because they were from young men. One of them was even from a boys' single-sex school and he was very embarrassed because his school had told him to phone us!
Anyway, it went OK and it didn't rain while they were walking to and from the Centre for Mathematical Sciences - only when I was cycling into town after the event.
Went to the cinema this evening to see Lemming. Recommended if you like slightly quirky French films which can't quite decide which genre they belong to. Not recommended if you have a phobia about small furry rodents. . Very funny sequence at the beginning for those who like computer gadgets. Oh, and the phrase ‘ça va coûter la peau des fesses’ [it'll cost an arm and a leg - literally, 'the skin off your buttocks'] reminded me of Martine's much-lamented French Word of the Day.
Charlotte Rampling is excellent, also Charlotte Gainsbourg, who looks scarily like the other Charlotte at some points (this is intended, but you'll have to see the film to find out why).
Anyway, it was raining even more by the time the film finished, so I had to have another glass of wine in the cinema bar (had one before the film - it's traditional on a Saturday night!). This sympathetic magic did not succeed in making the rain stop, so I have just got home rather wet. Got changed, checked my email (nothing for us hermits) and am just off to watch Dr Who, presuming it's recorded OK.

Susan and I have just watched Rabid...
Anyhow, I went in to the library today to do some revision. I met up witha French student to prepare for a Negitiation scenario we we both (seperately) have on Monday - It accounts for 60% of a course mark. I helped her out with the law side of the situation - it was quite funny, cos' tho' I don't speak French, I have odd bits tucked away that I can say moderately convincingly, and several times, when I was trying to explain a legal concep I would chuck in a bit of French and she got it immediately. As I say, it was funny, because she thought I was moderately proficient in the language...
Lemmings was made by the same guy who made Harry, wasn't it? I enjoyed Harry.

Yes, Dominik Moll. Haven't seen Harry, but will look out for it, because I enjoyed this one.
