Too much cake?

Nah! Not possible!
Last Friday was my birthday and it's customary at work for the person whose birthday it is to take in cake etc for everybody in the admin section - this might seem a bit mean, but actually it works out quite well: each person only has to do it once a year, whereas if we did it for each other, I'm willing to bet that the same person would end up organising it every time. I took: lemon drizzle cake, coffee and walnut cake, cranberry and orange cookies, flapjacks, and strawberries (for dieters). It was all very popular.
It was also my boss's last day at work before starting her maternity leave, so in the afternoon we skived off early and she took me to Fitzbillie's for tea and MORE cake.
On Saturday evening I went to London for my friend's 60th birthday party (his birthday is the same day as mine). He and his partner had prepared fantastic food for about 16 guests: canapes, then a selection of Italian salami etc and salad, then koulibiac (a hot salmon pie) and green beans, then FOUR different sorts of cake: dark chocolate, white chocolate, apple tart and a sponge layer cake with meringue round the outside. Wonderful!
I stayed overnight, and the next day we had some of the leftovers for lunch.
Today I've had the day off work and have been to town. Got quite a few things done that I've been meaning to do for a while - bought a new printer, which I'm about to connect up; went to the bead shop and had a necklace repaired - it took about two minutes and the guy didn't charge, which was nice; bought some new jeans which I'll probably wear to go to Paris next weekend - yippee!
But I haven't had any cake today, and I'm getting withdrawal symptoms ...

Annie I always think that cake-making, like playing an instrument - or indeed calligraphy - is a skill which requires regular practice. There is surely no such thing as too much cake. Just a question of time management when it comes to the eating.
Birthday weekend sounds good though. pj
