It was another lovely sunny day today - a bit colder now, but still beautiful blue skies and not so much wind as yesterday.

I walked up to King's Parade at lunchtime and heard a student saying to his friend "On a day like this, there's nowhere else I'd rather be". Looking at the outline of King's College Chapel against the blue sky, I knew exactly what he meant - it was a little "aaah!" moment in the middle of a really busy day.

I get the same feeling. Autumn is the best time of year on a campus. Mid-October: the trees change colour, the ivy goes red, the gutters fill up with chestnuts, the academic year has just started but the workload hasn't kicked in and you're still meeting up with friends and drinking it all in...

This Saiturday there'll be the rehearsal for Remembrance Sunday - the OTC etc. will march down the High Street to Kings College Chapel. I'll come out of the library to watch it. The dying drumbeat as the cadets march back to their headquarters will be the signal for me to step up a gear. I think I'll pop in by Peet this Saiturday, with some cakes maybe.

I agree that October was the most beautiful month in Old Aberdeen.

But it's a sunny (if somewhat blusterous) November day in Stellenbosch and there's nowhere I think I'd rather be right now.
